The Seven-Year Cycles of a Woman
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, a woman's life unfolds in cycles of seven years. This ancient teaching comes from the Huangdi Neijing, one of the oldest texts of Chinese medicine.
Each cycle is guided by the rising and gentle ebbing of our Jing, the precious essence stored in the kidneys that fuels our vitality, fertility and longevity.
7: Kidney energy awakens. The body begins to grow into itself.
14: The Tian Gui, the sacred waters, arrive and moon cycles begin. The womb comes online.
21: Energy reaches balance and the body comes into its fullness.
28: The peak of strength and vitality. Bones, muscle and connective tissue are at their strongest.
35: The first gentle ebb. The face and body begin to show the effort of all we've given. Early menopause can come over the next 14 year cycle if yin isn’t replenished.
42: Yang energy softens in the upper body. Many women feel the depletion of years spent giving.
49: The sacred waters complete their cycle and menopause begins to arrive. A woman becomes the wise one, the keeper of her own essence.
Each threshold is an initiation. It asks us to shed, to soften and to tend our essence more consciously than before.
Yet most of us cross these thresholds running on empty. We spend our Jing faster than we replenish it, through stress, little sleep, constant output and the weight of carrying everyone else.
Immanence is an invitation to stop spending and start restoring.
